There’s something about Friday that just feels different, even if you’re still working through the weekend. For me, it’s the quiet. Fewer emails. Fewer calls. More space to think, work on what I want to, and even enjoy a book in the backyard. It’s taken years, but I’ve finally learned how to be busy in a way that works for me. Not just for clients. Not just for deadlines. For me. That shift? It’s been life-changing.
When being busy finally starts to feel good…
There’s just something about Friday.
Even if you work the weekend, like I do... Friday still feels like a release. The inbox slows. The phone quiets. And I can actually get things done. My kind of things.
That includes writing this.
For the last 11 years, I’ve hosted a Friday afternoon networking group. Not just for leads (though it’s great for that), but because it’s how I like to end the week: surrounded by business friends, talking shop, winding down while still calling it work.
Because I love Fridays. Can you tell?
The Realization
I used to think I was just a workaholic. Always doing something. Always needing to be busy. Sitting still? Not a chance. I’d be crocheting, drawing, planning, tweaking something... anything.
Even vacations aren’t my thing—I’m still up by 5 a.m., reading or writing or mapping something out before the coffee’s done.
But here’s the shift:
For the first time, being busy finally feels like mine.
Evenings and weekends are no longer filled with guilt. If I’m working, it’s because I want to be. And if I’m not? That’s okay too.
The Takeaway
This little daily writing project—The Shift—has helped me reset how I work.
It’s busy, yes. But it’s the good kind.
The kind that fuels instead of drains.
If you’re also the type who needs to be doing something, here’s a thought:
Maybe the problem isn’t being busy. Maybe it’s being busy for everyone else but you.
So here’s your permission to enjoy Friday.
To wind down your way.
To be busy with what makes you feel full—not just what fills the time.
Until Monday,
Have a great weekend. I know I will.
